Mrs. Henry Van Allen, 62, of R.R. 2 Waverly, passed away Saturday morning, June 10, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo where she had been a patient for six days. Bernice L. Leerhoff was born May 25, 1910, in Allison, the daughter of Heiko and Cassie Gerjerts Leerhoff. On April 23, 1937 she was united in marriage to Henry Van Allen in Albert Lea, Minn. The couple lived in Mason City, Iowa until 1942 when they moved to Vancouver, Wash. In 1946, they left Vancouver and started farming south of Waverly in 1947. Bernice is survived by her husband, Henry, one sister, Mrs. Jurene Heeren, Hampton, Iowa, one brother, Irving Leerhoff, Clarksville, her step-mother, Mrs. H. H. Leerhoff, Allison, one step son, Lloyd Van Allen, Parkersburg, two step-daughters, Mrs. Eldon Finer, Clear Lake, Iowa, Mrs. Robert Brown, Troy, Mich., nine step-grandchildren, one half sister, Donna L. Coon, Janesville, Wisconsin and one half brother, Galen Leerhoff, Placentia, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents. From the card given at her funeral.... her final resting place is Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls. Services were conducted from St. John's Lutheran Church in Waverly at 2 p.m. on June 13. Casket bearers were: Charles Dewey, Dale Heeren, Don Heeren, Paul Leerhoff, Lawrence Stanek and Bud Williams.
