Tullus served in Company K, 5th Partisan Rangers, Texas Cavalry, CSA. First Baptist Church of Melissa Timeline: 1884 - October 18, The Baptist Church of Christ at Melissa is organized by Pastor Levi Dunn and 22 charter members: P. A. Humphries, Bettie Parris, S. J. Parris, John G. Humphries, Delia Lair, Martha Graves, James M. Graves, Mary Crain Harriet Shirley, G. A. Humphries, Martha A. Vanters, T. C. Lair, Z. T. Humphries, Mary Slaughter, Virginia R. Ogilvie, Frederic H. Ogilvie, Mary Atkinson, Suzie Humphries, Maranda F. Gibson, John f. Gibson, James S. Hill, and E. P. Hill. The first deacon was J. M. Graves, F. H. Ogilvie was the first church clerk, and J. S. Hill was the first church treasurer. Sunday worship services held monthly. Obituary: The McKinney Examiner, McKinney, TX: Nov 1920: "T.C. LAIR DIED LAST THURSDAY: FORMERLY LIVED IN MCKINNEY, BUT HAD MOVED TO RAINS COUNTY --- EARLY SETTLER OF NORTH COLLIN. The Examiner receives with sadness the news of the passing of T.C. Lair, at his home at Emory, Rains county. Mr. Lair formerly lived in McKinney and was here only a short time ago and called on the Examiner. He had been on a visit to his daughters, Mesdames Sam and Thad Parris, at Melissa and was returning to his home in Rains county. When he lived in McKinney he was a frequent business and social caller at this office, He was always cheerful and brought sunshine with him on his visits and made us happy with his presence. / We shall miss him as we have missed so many of our good old pioneer friends during the passing years. We join in sympathy for the bereft family. (reprinted obit folloes) --- T.C. LAIR DIED. OBITUARY --- T.C. Lair was born Oct 9, 1838, near Lexington, Ky., and was a son of the late Dr. W.D. Lair, a pioneer citizen of Collin County. He died Nov. 18, 1920, at his home near Emory, Texas of pneumonia, and was buried near Emory. / The deceased came to Texas when a young man. Served with the Confederates in the Civil War. For many years he lived in Collin county at Melissa, Celina and McKinney, moving to Rains county about eight years ago. / In early manhood he married Miss Martha Pierce. Six children were born to this union. Two of them, Mrs. Ellen Boyer and Price Lair followed their mother to the Great Beyond. Those surviving are Mesdames Sam and Thad Parris of Melissa, Will Lair of Goodnight, and John R. Lair of Saskatchewan, Canada. In later years he married Miss Thurza Boyer. M. Thomas" William Harlan Lair, listed as son of Thursa was son of Tullus' first wife Martha Pierce who he married in KY in 1857;she died in 1873. Thursa's only child was George Henry Lair. His mother was Maria Haynes who died in KY. His only full sibling was Galen.
