Bio

William Jefferson Baber was born December 31, 1876 in Howard County, Arkansas, son of Robert Harrison Baber (1850-1938) and Martha Elizabeth Faulkner (1855-1929). The 1880 Federal Census for Sulphur Springs, Arkansas (Howard County) shows William J. Baber, age 3, born in Arkansas; living with his father Robert H. Baber, a farmer, age 29, born in Arkansas; and his mother Martha E., age 24, born in Alabama. Also living in the household was William's younger brother, Joseph Johnson Baber, age 7 months, born in Arkansas. On July 15, 1900, in Baker Springs, Arkansas (Howard County), William married Rosamond Zella Plunkett, who was born December 9, 1881 in Mississippi. The 1910 Federal Census for Umpire, Arkansas (Howard County) shows William J. Baber, age 33, born in Arkansas; and his wife, Zella, age 28, born in Mississippi. The census shows that William and Zella had been married 10 years and had given birth to six children, all still living. Living with them were six children: Flora A., age 8; William Cecil, age 6; Elitha Paralee, age 5; Vernon, age 3; Mamie Verna, age 3; and Odessa, age 3 months; all born in Arkansas. The 1930 Federal Census for Bokchito, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows William J. Baber, a farmer, age 53, born in Arkansas; and his wife, R. Zella, age 47, born in Mississippi. Living with them were six children: Flora A., age 28; Vernon, age 23; Gladys L., age 17; Leland R., age 14; Doyce D., age 10; Nova Eilene., age 7; all born in Arkansas. In addition, William's father, Robert H. Baber, a widower, age 79, born in Arkansas, was living with the family. Zella died October 12, 1951 in Bokchito, Oklahoma (Bryan County) and was buried in the Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County). William died December 25, 1960 in Bokchito and was buried in Highland Cemetery beside his wife.
