Funeral services for Clarence Victor Jackson, 89, of Lamesa, will be held on Monday, March 21, 2011, at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Lamesa with Chris Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Clarence passed away on Friday, March 18, 2011 in Lamesa. He was born on May 21, 1921 in Fairfield to Junie and Clara Jackson. He married Berniece Johnston Jackson on August 11, 1941. She preceded him in death on April 8, 2007. Clarence served his Country as a Private First Class in the United States Marine Corps. He was aboard one of the first ships to arrive in Iwo Jima. After Iwo Jima they were deployed to Guam where they were to prepare for the final assault on Japan. Japan eventually surrendered and Clarence was honorably discharged on December 27, 1945. He worked for Jackson Brothers Automotive in Lamesa from the early 1960's until his retirement. Clarence was a butcher and a farmer in Levelland, but was always a farmer at heart. Clarence was a very loving family man. He was a life long member of the Baptist Church where he served as a deacon in Levelland and Lamesa. He is survived by his children, Ann and husband, Ron Forest, of Midland, Earl and wife, Francis Jackson, of Lamesa, Virginia and husband, Ray Kuykendall, of Farmers Branch, and Richard and wife, Linda Jackson, of St. Mary's, Georgia; a brother, Fred Jackson of Dumas; grandchildren, Jeff, Seth, Sherry, Katie, Dana, Lana, Jana, Larry, Justin, Daniel, and Nova; and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Clarence is preceded in death by his parents, Junie and Clara; his wife, Berniece; four brothers, two sisters; and a grandson, Buddy Jackson.
