Valparaiso Visitor May 8, 1930 MRS. ANNA SCHARF DIES AT AGE OF SEVENTY-FOUR The Valparaiso community mourns the passing of another pioneer resident in the death of Mrs. Anna Scharf at the Thomas Bejvancesky home where she had lived for the past several years. Mrs. Scharf had enjoyed good health ad(sic) was ill but a short time before death occurred. Testimony of the high regard held for Mrs. Scharf was shown by the great gathering of friends at the funeral service which took place at the local Methodist Church, Sunday afternoon, with Rev. Laurence E. Nye officiating. Interment was made in the Valparaiso Cemetery. Anna Fidler was born in October 1856, in Brudnia, Czechoslovakia, and died near Valparaiso, May 1, 1930, having reached the age of 74 years, 6 months and 13 days. She married Joseph Scharf and the family came to the United States in 1880 an(sic) settled in Saunders county, near Weston where they remained for seventeen years. Leaving Weston, they moved to a farm southwest of Valparaiso. Mr. Scharf died in 1906 and Mrs. Scharf remained on the farm for a number of years. In recent years, she spent some time in Wahoo an(sic) Weston but finally came back to Valparaiso to make her home with Mr. and Mrs. Bejvancesky where she remained until her death. Mrs. Scharf is survived by five daughters, Miss Anna Scharf, Mrs. Thomas Bejvancesky, Miss Frances Scharf, Mrs. Hugo Saathoff and Mrs. Paul Miller, and three sons, Joseph, Frank and James, and twenty-two grandchildren. Beside her husband, four daughters have preceded her in death, two passing away in 1919 and two having died in infancy. She leaves eight sisters, Mrs. Cezofsky and Mrs. Kacirek, of Weston, Mrs. Brezina, of St Paul, Mrs. Schump, at Harington, Kans., Mrs. Hofpar, of Loma, Mrs. Hiltcher, of Ceresco, and Mrs. Wakefield and Mrs. Louie Nelson of Valparaiso, and three brothers, Frank and James Fidler, residing at Weston and Paul, of Valparaiso. (Her maiden name was spelled Fiedler) (Daughter Eleanor "Laura" Scharf Maly b. 18 Jan 1880 (Czechoslovakia) d. 02 Feb 1919 Dickey Co., North Dakota, was married to Josef (Joseph) Henry Maly.
