Cyril "C.W." Cernosek, 80, of West, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with the Rev. Ed Karasek and Msgr. Isidore Rozycki as celebrants. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by West V.F.W. Post No. 4819. The family will receive visitors 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Aderhold Funeral Home. C.W. was born in West, Texas, to the late John F. and Anna Mae (Karlik) Cernosek. He was a graduate of Aquilla High School and served his country with the United States Air Force during the Korean War. On May 28, 1952, he was united in marriage to Margaret "Margie" Pustejovsky in Abbott. C.W. worked for General Tire and Rubber Company in Waco for 33 years and as a sales agent and State Director for R.V.O.S. Local Lodge 78 for many years. He was a longtime and faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, and was also a member and held various offices with the St. Mary's Quarterback Club, West Athletic Booster Club, McLennan/Hill County Czech Heritage Society, Texas Czech Ancestors, Czech Education Foundation of Texas, West Fair and Rodeo Association, West Longhorn Club, Knights of Columbus Council 2305, Texas Teenage Baseball/Softball Association, the Catholic Life Association, and K.J.T. #31 of West. C.W. has served his community in many other ways such as City Councilman since 1989, Westfest Director since it started in 1976, being a very strong leader and supporter of the West Youth Baseball/Softball Association, and being very supportive of activities at West Rest Haven. C.W. was preceded in death by his wife on March 20, 2010; and a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Cernosek. Survivors include sons: C.W. "Butch" Cernosek Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Sachse, Richard Cernosek and Sandy Chavez, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Donald Cernosek and wife, Paula, of West; daughters: Denise McGuire and husband, Dean, of Midlothian, Carol Bartosh and husband, Tommy, of Duncanville, Joanie Crain and husband, David, of Grabill, Ind., and Julie Freeman and husband, Richard, of Dawson; grandchildren: Risha Beasley and husband, Craig, Corby LaCroix and wife, Cari, Miki Cernosek Land, Dr. T.J. Bartosh and wife, Dr. Nicole, Clifford Bartosh and wife, Michelle, Weston LaCroix, Marty Cernosek, Craig Bartosh and wife, Melissa, Audra Lansdown and husband, Trevor, Tammy Rios and husband, Aaron, Christopher Cernosek, Leslie Cernosek, Molly Cernosek, Jade Crain, Lisa Cernosek, Grace Crain, Benjamin Freeman, Catherine Bartosh, and Joshua Freeman; great-grandchildren: Haley, Jacob, Trevor, Abby, Kate, Owen, Parker, Emma, Tatum, and Jackson; brothers: Johnny Cernosek, of West, and Bill Cernosek and Edward Cernosek, both of Garland; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
