TOMMY FLOYD STAPLES SR. TULETA - Tommy Floyd Staples Sr., 77, of Tuleta, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010 in Victoria. He was born Feb. 24, 1933, in Tuleta, to the late Walter Rose Staples and Ola Bell Staples. He married Shirley Sawey on Feb. 22, 1953 in Choate. He was the owner of Staples Oilfield Company in Tuleta and was a member of First Baptist Church of Tuleta. Tommy served his country proudly in the Army and was a veteran of the Korean conflict. He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Sawey) Staples of Tuleta; daughters, Donna (Kyle) Champagne of Pettus, Diane (Aaron) Howell of Pettus, Kathy (Matt) Atkins of Shreveport, La., and Dana (Clay) Rabe of Tuleta; daughter-in-law, Reida Staples of San Antonio; sons, David (Lauri) Staples of Gillett and Ricky (Brenda) Staples of Georgetown; sisters, Anna Belle Cooley of Shreveport, La., Gladys Herod, Cordella Sparks, and Velma McGrew, all of Beeville; brothers, James Staples of Tuleta, Bob Staples of Mathis, and Ted Staples of Tuleta; nephew, Ronnie Staples; and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tommy Floyd Staples Jr.; brother, Sam Staples; grandson, Brett Allen Staples; and great-grandson, Brett Hunter Staples. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2010 at Eckols Chapel in Kenedy. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2010 at Choate Cemetery in Choate with Deacon Roy Cox officiating. Pallbearers will be Brady Staples, Beau Staples, Kevin Champagne, Doug Hawkins, Kody Hawkins, J.D. Went, David Saenz II, Trey Saenz, Justin Howell, Tres Beck, Josh Atkins, Ian Atkins, Trevor Rabe, Brent Rabe, Deric Rabe, Michael Pratt, and Kaelen Staples. Honorary pallbearers are Charlie Kosarek, Austin Tayler, Bob Luker, Clarence Long, Roy Maxwell, Damacio Dominguez Jr., Jesse Berthold Sr., and Wilbur Butler.
