Delos Gardner Perkins was the oldest surviving son of 21 children born to Daniel Perkins Jr. He was born on the 9th of April, 1833 in Columbus, Chenango County, New York. Sometime later the family moved to Cincinatus, NY. When he was about 7, his mother, Lucy Loomis, died of complications of childbirth, and his father remarried a woman named Olive. == Age 13 In about 1846, the family relocated to Wisconsin. They traveled from Buffalo to Wisconsin by boat on Lake Erie. == Age 17 By 1850, the family was living in Mukwonago, Waukesha, Wisconsin. == Age 27 Ten years later, he was working as a farm laborer for a man named Sanborn Hughes in Milton, Rock County, Wisconsin. == Age 28 In 1861 he married Jane Lyke. == Age 37 By 1870 they had moved back to Mukwonago and had a hired hand named John Cade. Age 47 A decade later they were farming near Summit in Waukesha and were neighbors to her parents David & Betsey Lyke. Age 52 In 1885, Jane's father died, and a year later her mother died. • Age 54 The following year, Delos took off for the Dakota Territory and Jane stayed in Wisconsin with her sister Harriet. Age 57 In 1900 Delos was listed as a landowner in Sanborn County. Age 62 In 1905 Jane Perkins died in Wisconsin and was buried in the same plot with her parents. In 1905 Delos did not show in the South Dakota Census. It is not known when he died, but his name appears among those interred in the Mount Pleasant cemetery near Artesian, Sanborn County, South Dakota. Compiled by Joyce Castle, 2016
