Obituary - Ellensburg Daily Record, September 9, 2008, Ellensburg,Kittitas, Washington: Emma M. Utz, 96, former Ellensburg resident, died Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Josephine Sunset Home in Stanwood. Born in Ellensburg on February 25, 1912, she was one of two daughters of Guy and Olive (Parkes) Darter. She attended Ellensburg Normal School, now Central Washington University, and taught in Troy, Oregon where she met and married Allen Utz. They returned to Ellensburg to live and raise their family and she taught school in Ronald and Easton. Active in many local clubs and charities, of which she was a member, Noble Grand and secretary of the Rebekan Lodge. She volunteered at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital for many years, participated in local Senior Center activities and was honored by Kiwanis for her many contributions to the community. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She loved her flower garden and spent many days each summer tending her flowers and talking to passersby who enjoyed the beauty of her yard. In 2005 she moved to the Stanwood area to be closer to her sons and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one sister, Marian Darter. Survivors include two sons, Robert (Nancy) Utz of Camano Island and Arne (Maureen) Utz of Marysville and two grand daughters, Erin and Amanda. Burial will be in Ellensburg with services at graveside at the IOOF Cemetery at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 13. Arrangements by Affordable Funeral Care..
