Bio

Georgia was born June 9, 1918 at Overton, NE to Henry and Katherine (Ourada) Gruntorad. She attended school at Overton through the 4th Grade and then attended rural School District 43 in Dawson County and rural School Districts 78, 19 and 80 in Saunders County. She and George E. Codr were married November 16, 1937 at Cedar Hill Catholic Church and they farmed in the Linwood, David City and Brainard areas until 1955 when they moved to Prague. They owned and operated George's Bar and from 1966 to 1969 they also operated George's Supermarket in Prague. Georgia enjoyed baking, embroidering, singing, Czech music, gardening and doing Word Search puzzles. She was a member of the St. John's Rosary Society, the Pink Ladies of Lincoln and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association. Georgia died January 16th at the age of 92, at St. Joseph's Villa in David City where she had been a resident for about three months. Georgia is survived by four daughters, Lucille (Edward J.) Prochaska of Prague, Janice (Rudy T.) Vanek of Wahoo, Marilyn (Keith) Hanke of Prague, Loretta "Lori" (Robert) Dauel of Malmo; two sons, Daniel (Renee) Codr of Prague and David (Pamela) Codr of Weston; 16 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, George (September 18, 1993); granddaughter, Janice Prohaska; great granddaughter, Brenda Strizek; great great grandson, Remy Etherington; seven brothers, James, Henry, "Little Joe" (infant), Joseph, Otto, Rudolph and Adolph Gruntorad; three sisters, Emily Pavelka, Mary Karmazin and Josephine Codr. Family suggest memorials to Cedar Hill Cemetery or St. John's Catholic Church. Funeral lunch will be served at the Parish Hall following burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
