Parents were Andy Oliver Roberts & Anna Maud Bowers Married to LaVerne Roberts Sept. 27, 1930 Roy Earl Roberts, 86, died Aug. 15, 1993 at the Independence Manor Care Center where he had been a resident for two months. He was born in the Hopewell Community of Lamar County, Texas. He attended the Sweeney Automotive School in Kansas City, Missouri, graduating in 1930. He was employed by the Standard Oil Co. (Indiana) for 37 years, retiring in 1967 as a Chief Station Engineer. He had lived in Independence for 38 years. He was a member of the Blue Ridge Blvd. United Methodist Church. Services were held Aug. 19 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel with burial in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, LaVerne Roberts of the home; a son, Roy E. Roberts (Linda), Independence; two brothers, Tom Roberts, Valliant, Okla. and Wilbur Roberts, Odessa, Texas; and two grandchildren, Brent A. Roberts (Beth), Blue Springs, Mo. and Lori S. Bettis (Andrew), Murray, Utah.
