Robert Babel Stratton was born in Ballard Co, KY, to the parents of Alexander Mosby Stratton and Mildred A. Willingham. He was the first child. Robert Stratton moved to Texas from Ballard Co, KY, with his father's family in the early 1880's (sometime after 1882 abt 1884). He settled in Hunt Co (East-Northeast of Dallas, about 50-60 miles), and he farmed at first. (Possibly he obtained land under the federal homestead act.) Later he ran a grocery and general merchandise store in Merit (Hunt Co). This is about five miles from Farmersville, TX. Still later he was a grain dealer. He lost his health in about 1923, and suffered greatly until he died of cancer in Jun 1929. He was well loved throughout the area, and had a large attendance at his funeral in the Methodist Church. Robert Stratton married Julia Hardy Cox in Hunt Co, TX, on 9 Jun 1895, and they had six children: an infant that died early, Ethel Stratton (1896-1977), Eula Roberta (1899-1970), Bess (1902-1976), George Clayton (1905-1979), and Julia Hardy (1910-1944).
