Bio

Frank was a native of Kostelec u Stipia in Moravia, which at that time was part of the Empire of Austria-Hungary. Frank Smesny immigrated to Texas in 1909 on the ship, Koln, which docked in Galveston, Texas, on April 10, 1909, and Frank traveled to Austin County, Texas, where he was reunited with his two sisters, Filomena Jalowy and Frantiska Peska, who had come to Texas in 1900. Frank Smesny worked as a farm hand in Texas. Frank married Pauline Zapalac on April 29, 1913, in Frydek, Texas, and they were the parents of four children; one daughter died in infancy. Frank and Pauline Smesny farmed in the Austin County community of Frydek until they retired and moved into Sealy. ****************************************************************************************** OBITUARY FROM THE SEALY NEWS: Funeral Services For Frank Smesny Held Here Friday Funeral services for Frank Smesny were held at 8:30 a.m. Friday, July 16, from the Chapel of the Pete E. Ellinger Funeral Home here and continued at the Immaculate Conception Church at 9, with Monsignor A. W. Nesvadba of Wallis and Rev. Lad Klimicek of Frydek officiating, Etlinger Funeral Home directing. Interment was in the Sealy Catholic Cemetery. Rosary recital was held at the Funeral Home on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Pallbearers were Charlie Machala, Emil Ermis, Willie Jez, Joe Sodolak, Steve Pavlicek, and Charlie Zaruba. Born in Czechoslovakia on September 18, 1888, he was reared in Czechoslovakia and Frydek. On April 30, 1913 he married Miss Pauline Zapalac in Frydek; she preceded him in death on November 5, 1964. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Sealy, SPJST, Social member of KJZT and was a retired farmer. Mr. Smesny passed away in the Sealy Hospital on July 14, following a two months illness, attaining the age of 76 years, 9 months and 26 days. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Louise Konarik of Victoria and Mrs. Frances Novosad of Sealy; son, Charlie of Houston; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Hradil of Sealy and Mrs. Frances Peska of Crosby; three brothers, Theo. and Joe of Dayton and Ludvik of Sealy; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
