Services for John W. "Wannie" McCarty, Sr., 96, of Lufkin, were held August 11, 1993 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mr. McCarty was retired as a lumber grader after 44 years of service with Angelina Lumber Co. He lived in Lufkin since about 1900. He was a member of the Third Street Baptist Church and was a former choir director at Keltys United Methodist Church, Clawson Baptist Church and Third Street Baptist Church. He was s member of the Woodmen of the World. Mr. McCarty served his country in the U.S. Army during World War I. Survivors: Wife, Sue Ann Dixon McCarty sons and daughters-in-law, John W. and Gwen McCarty, Jr., John A. and Helen McCarty Daughters and sons-in-law, Marguerite and John Lawrence, Marie and the late Abe Langford, Rebecca and Monroe Ward 11 grandchildren; 21 greagrandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
