LYDIA ANN STAUFFER PASSES AWAY Mrs. Lydia Ann Stauffer passed away at her home on Friday October 10th following a short illness. She was sixty-nine years old and had resided in Seward County fifty-seven years. Mrs. Stauffer was the last surviving member of the first three Mennonite families to come to Seward County. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the East Fairview church, with George Miller, assisted by Joe Rediger, officiating. Burial in the East Fairview Cemetery. Lydia Ann Stauffer (nee Harris) was born on February 17, 1861 at Sugar Creek, Holmes County, Ohio and passed away in Milford Nebraska on October 10, 1930 at the age of 69 years, 7 months, and 23 days. In 1873 at the age of 12 years she moved with her parents Mr. and Mrs. John J. Harris to Seward County, Nebraska locating on a farm three miles west of Milford, where she grew to womanhood. When she was seventeen years old, she united with the Mennonite church to which she remained a faithful member until her death, and was the only surviving in the East Fairview church of the three families who moved here at the same time and who were the first Mennonites to locate in Seward County. On February 15, 1880 she was married to Christian Stauffer with whom she lived until his death on April 5, 1908. To this union were born nine children, 6 sons and 3 daughters; Daniel, Edwin, and Caroline of Milford, Sarah Yordy of Ashley, Michigan, John of Phillips, Albert of Gothenberg, and Amos of Lincoln. One daughter and one son preceded her in infancy. Besides her children she is survived by 19 grandchildren, 2 brothers, 4 sisters, and a host of relatives and friends.
