Bio

Mrs. Rita Mae Weidner, 81, of LaPorte, died at 4:29 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at LaPorte Hospital. She was born May 31, 1929, in Humphrey, Nebraska, to Joseph and Clara (Wilhelm) Labenz. Mrs. Weidner had been a LaPorte Community Schools bus driver and a self-employed truck driver. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. On May 8, 1946, in Humphrey, NE, she married Sylvester G. "Pep" Weidner, who survives. Also surviving are six daughters, Linda (Hoyt) Huskey of Brighton, MI, Sandra (Jim) Menne of LaPorte, Judy (Neal) West of Michigan City, IN, Lois (John) Diedrich of LaPorte, Debra (Roger) Bedwell of Noblesville, IN, and Sherry (Roger) McEnterfer of Westville, IN; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia Korth of Humphrey, NE, and Marceda Masur of Madison, NE; one brother, Paul Labenz of Humphrey; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Cathy Kieffer; five sons, Sylvester Jr., Gerald, Joseph, Ricky and Jimmy Lee Weidner; three grandsons, Ryan McEnterfer, Hoyt Huskey Jr. and Neal West Jr.; and one brother, Donald Labenz. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, LaPorte, with Rev. David Kime officiating. Visitation will be held at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Tuesday, Nov. 30, from 3 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. A rosary service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, LaPorte, at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Godparent Program, 109 C St., LaPorte, IN 46350.
