Son of Millard F. and Jennie Mantor Barnes. The following obituary was published in the Rosenberg Herald on August 27, 1937: "Kenneth Barnes" Funeral services for Kenneth Barnes, age 38 years, were held at the grave in the Rosenberg cemetery Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. P. S. Wilson, of the M. E. Church, South of Rosenberg, conducted the services in the presence of a host of friends from the Danbury section and from Rosenberg. Mr. Barnes passed away at a Freeport hospital Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. He was burned seriously when a barrel of gasoline exploded in a barn while he was trying to get his tractor out of the building, following the explosion of a smaller amount of gas in another container. The burning liquid sprayed over him and his mother, who was nearby the time of the explosion, assisted him in extinguishing the flames, but not until the burns were serious enough to cause his death. Mr. Barnes was born in Sheldon, Illinois, but spent most of his life in Fort Bend and Brazoria counties. He came with his parents to Ft. Bend county during the year of 1905. At the death of his father in 1912, he moved with his widowed mother to Brazoria county remaining with her without marrying until his death. He was a faithful, loving son and his deplorable accident and death is almost more than his mother can stand, especially since suffering the loss of her only daughter, Mrs. Bertha Hartlage, two years ago. Deceased is survived by his mother, Mrs. Jennie Barnes of Danbury and one brother Verne Barnes of Rosesharon. The Foerster Funeral Home of Rosenberg had charge of funeral arrangements. The bereaved mother and brother have the deep sympathy of their host of friends in their sad bereavement. * * *
