Daughter of Lyman and Mary Hoagland Mantor. The following obituary was published in the Rosenberg Herald on April 28, 1939: "Jennie Barnes" Funeral srvices were held at the grave in the W.O.W. Cemetery in Rosenberg Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock for Mrs. Jennie Barnes of Danbury. Rev. H. M. Barnett, Christian minister and life-long friend of the deceased, held the services, assisted by the Methodist Choir of Rosenberg. The Foerster Funeral Home of Rosenberg had charge of funeral arrangements. Mrs. Barnes was born at Sheldon, Illinois on July 7, 1865. At the age of 20 years, she was married to Joseph Hardesty, who died a few years later. Several years following Mr. Hardesty's death, she married Milford Barnes. In 1905 the family moved to Texas and Mr. Barnes passed away in 1908. Following Mr Barnes' death she has continuously lived in Fort Bend and Brazoria counties, where she was held in high esteem by a host of friends. Mrs. Barnes life seemed to be one of tragedy, but she was able to bear all the sorrows that came to her braavely. Her oldest son, Sam Hardesty, died in the service of his country in 1917; her only daughter, Mrs. Bertha Hartlage, passed away in April 1935; the last sorrow being that of the death of her son, Kenneth, who was fatally burned in a gasoline explosion at their farm in August 1937. Following the death of her son, Kenneth, she made her home with her son, C. V. Barnes and his wife at Rosharon. On February 16, of this year, she was injured in an automobile accident with her son. After several weeks in a Houston hospital she was brought to the home of her dear friend, Mrs. Ira M. Douglass, in Rosenberg, where she received the very best care and attention. She had received a broken arm and several broken ribs in the accident on February 16, but was well on the road to recovery from this when she had a subarchranal hemorage Wednesday night, passing away from this cause at 10:50 a.m. Friday. She had been a member of the Methodist Church since a small girl, her membership being in Sheldon, Ill. She often expressed the wish that she be removed from her earthly home to the one above that had been prepared for her by her Savior--that she was prepared to meet Him, after years of service to her family and friends here. Deceased is survived by one son, C. V. Barnes, and one daughter-in-law, Mrs. C. V. Barnes of Danbury; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Brenner of Santa Cruz, Cal.; one brother, Chas. Mandor of Denver, Colorado; and one aunt, Dr. Emma Taylor of Carlsbad, Cal., and several nieces and nephews. Sympathy is extended the bereaved son, and other loved ones in their sorrow. * * *
