s/o Joseph Hardesty & Jennie Mantor Obituary provided by Frankie Randall . ================================================== The following obituary was pubished in the Rosenberg News-Herald on December 7, 1917: Private Sam C. Hardesty, age 25 years, died November 22, 1917, at Fort Riley, Kansas, while in training for the cause of his country. Death resulting from meningitis Sam was a good, honest boy, and well liked by all who knew him, and his untimely death is mourned by everyone. His remains reached Rosenberg, Friday, November 30th, and was laid to rest in the Woodmen Cemetery, Saturday, December 1, 1917, at 11 a.m. Funeral services were under the auspices of the M.W.A., of which Society, he was an honorable member, and under the military ceremonies, conducted by a number of United States regulars stationed at Damon. A large concurse of sorrowing relatives and friends were preseent to pay their last tribute to the departed soldier boy. The decedent is survived by his mother, Mrs. Jennie M. Barnes of Angleton, two brothers and one sister, Mrs. August Hartlage, who resides near this city.* * *
