Bio

Mrs. Dorothy Kneitz Hyatt, of Austin, was born on the family farm in Fairchild, July 26, 1925, to Joe Steve Kneitz and Edyth Stavinoha Kneitz, and died May 17, 2004. Dorothy had suffered for 12 long years from the dreaded Alzheimer's disease and died quietly in her sleep at home in Austin. She was 78. Mrs. Hyatt is survived by her husband, Douglas P. Hyatt; two children, Ronald Hyatt of Dallas, and Rhonda Ann Hyatt of Austin; two grandchildren, Brian D. Hyatt of Houston, and Dr. Jessica E. Knape of San Francisco, Calif. She is also survived by her sister, Alma Ludwig and husband Edwin of Bellaire; two nieces and one nephew and a number of great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hyatt graduated from Richmond High School, in Richmond in 1943 and entered the Saint Joseph's School of Nursing, Houston. She was enrolled in the Saint Joseph's Cadet School of Nursing program but the World War II was terminated by the Peace Treaty and the need for the graduating nurses was curtailed. After graduating in 1946 she did not enter the service as planned before the war ended. While attending Saint Joseph's School of Nursing, Dorothy was very popular among the student body and was elected to May Fete Queen of 1946 for her graduating class. Being a military wife permitted Dorothy and the children to enjoy extensive travel and to live in such places as three years in Hawaii, and four years in The Netherlands of Europe. The period in Europe was particularly enjoyable because the travel to other countries was not restricted and required only minimal paper work and effort to obtain approval prior to departure. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, May 24, 2004, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Needville, with the Rev. James Ramsey officiating. Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Arrangements by Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 S.
