Bio

The Wellington Leader June 1, 1978 J.W. Fields, 61, of 910 Ennis Street, died at his home at 9:00 a.m. Sunday, May 28. He had been in ill health about 12 years. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, in Faith Baptist Church, with the Rev. Nathan Mulder, pastor, officiating. Burial was in North Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Guy Owens Funeral Home. Pallbearers were V.H. Breedlove, Mickey Breedlove, Freddy Mayhugh, Clifford Throne, Sid Bell and Willie Tow. James William Fields was born April 16, 1917, at Sulphur Springs, the son of the late Ernest and Emma Spraggs Fields. He was married to Myrtle Ruth Thomas there on October 9, 1941. They moved to Wellington from Sulphur Springs 34 years ago. Mr. Fields was a retired self-employed painter. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Faith Baptist Church since 1959, of the Masonic Lodge and Frank King Post of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Ruth Fields; two sons, Arvin L. Fields of Arlington and James D. Fields of Wellington; two daughters, Mrs. Bobby Langford of Fort Cobb, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Evelyn Boyce of Wellington; one sister, Mrs. Neva Mears of Gladewater; and 7 grandchildren.
