According to 1920 US Census, immigration from Bohemia 1880 MRS. EMIL SKALA DIES SUDDENLY Mrs. Emil Skala , 70 was found dead in her bed early Wednesday morning by members of her family, who along with others in the community were extremely shocked and grieved at the sudden loss of a beloved wife, mother and friend. Mrs. Skala had complained of no illness and appeared to be in good health when she retired the night before after having made arrangements for her next days work. Death was attributed to a cerebral hemorrhage. Anna Skala, nee Karnik was born on Nov. 12, 1873 in Bohemia. She came to Nebraska from her native land with her parents at the age of 3 years. She grew to womanhood in this community, where she had spent practically her entire life, except for a few years residence at Howells. On. August 13, 1895 she was united in marriage to Mr. Emil Skala. They farmed in Cuming county and north of Howells retiring about 15 years ago when they moved to Dodge. Surviving are her husband and five children (Mildred) Mrs. Jos. Tichota, Orchard; (Ida) Mrs. James Sicgl, Schuyler; (Helen) Mrs. Joseph Tresnak, Howells; Leon Skala, Howells and (Bessie) Mrs. Adolph Haba, Bruno. She also leaves 16 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Stanley Hruby, Omaha and three brothers. Dr. J. S. Karnik, Charles Karnik and Anton Karnik, all of Dodge. Two sisters, Mrs. John Stan-ek and Mrs. James Tichota preceded her in death. Her mother, Mrs. Barbara Karnik died December 21, of last year at the age of 97 years. Funeral services have been set for Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Bohemian National Chapel, Rev Filipi of Clarkson to conduct the services.
