The Dodge Criterion (Dodge, Nebraska) 20 Nov 1930, Thu Page 1 Mrs. Anna Vlasak Called By Death Funeral Held Wednesday Afternoon Mrs. Anna Vlasak, a resident of Hooper for the past thirty-one years, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Monday, November 10, 1930 at her home at the Hooper Inn, at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 5 days. Death is ascribed to ailments incident to old age. Though having been in gradually failing health for the past several years, her condition did not become serious until 3 to 4 weeks ago when she was taken to her bed, and the end came rapidly. Her passing brings to the family the sincere sympathy of Hooper friends. As Anna Karnick [sic] she was born on January 5th, 1841, at Zurc, Czechoslovakia, where she grew to young womanhood. She was married to Joseph Vlasak at Prague in 1873. They came to the United States in 1883, locating in New York City. After a short resident there they cane to Nebraska and settled in Knox county then later moving to Dodge county and settling near Dodge. In 1899 Mrs. Vlasak and family came to Hooper Mr. Vlasak having purchased and taken possession of the Wicker Hotel, the present Hooper Inn. Mr. Vlasak died in 1905 at an Omaha hospital. With the exception of a year and a half residence in Omaha with her daughter, Mrs. Rose Hooper continued to be the residence of Mrs. Vlasak, she making her home with her son, who assumed charge of the hotel after his father's death. She leaves to mourn her loss three daughters and three sons. Mrs. Joseph E. Skipsky, Mrs. Rose Young, Mrs. Mary Young and Harry of Hooper, Frank of Lyons, and Joseph of Lindsay. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, two sisters, Mrs. Albert Brown of Winner, S.D. and Mrs. Keller of New York City, and one brother Joseph Karnick [sic] of Olevia, Minn. Her funeral was held Wednesday Nov. 12 at 1:30 with short services at the Bucholz undertaking parlors with Rev. Joseph Phillippe, a personal friend of the family, as officiating minister. Her body was taken to Dodge for interment besides the remains of her husband in the Dodge cemetery.
