The Hooper Sentinel (Hooper, Nebraska) 06 Apr 1905, Thu Page 8 Hooper Business Man Dies Jos. Vlasak, proprietor of the Wickwire hotel, died at 3 o'clock Monday morning at the St. Joseph hospital in Omaha, at which place he had been for several weeks under the care of physicians. Mr. Vlasak had been troubled with rheumatism for a number of years, and an operation was performed a week prior to his death. He suffered a severe setback after the operation and the family was summoned to his bedside, and were present when the end came. Deceased was born in Varkosove, Bohemia in 1851. He was married to Anna Karnik in January 1873, and in July 1883 they came to the United States and settled on a farm near Dodge, Nebraska, where they resided until 1899 when he purchased and took possession of the Wickwire hotel at this place. With the wife there are six children three boys, Frank, Joseph, and Harry, and thee girls, Mary, Rosa, and Emma, left to mourn his untimely departure. The remains were brought here from Omaha Monday evening, and Tuesday afternoon were taken to Dodge where funeral services were held Wednesday at eleven o'clock in charge of the Woodmen of the World, of which organization he was a member and in which he carried a policy for $1500.
