Ivan "Shep" Laurice Shepherd, 81, of Augusta, died at 10:35 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2003, at his home. Born Aug. 3, 1921, in Drakesville, he was the son of Irvin I. and Allie Eakins Shepherd. On July 28, 1942 he married Wanda Nadine Pebbles in Lancaster, Mo. Mr. Shepherd was a maintenance foreman for Leopold Desk Co. for 27 years before retiring. He was of the Protestant faith. He was a World War II Army Veteran with the rank of private first class and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9162. He enjoyed both flower and vegetable gardening and fishing. Survivors include his wife; one son, Galen Shepherd of West Burlington; two daughters, Nelda Jackson of Augusta and Noreda Schnedler of Burlington; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; four brothers, Harry Shepherd of Belleive, Mo., Carl Shepherd and Ralph Shepherd of Ottumwa, and Ronald Shepherd of Bakersfield, Calif.; two sisters, Icle Brisendine and Mabel Eileen Coyne, both of Ottumwa; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one son. Visitation will begin after 1 p.m. Friday at Prugh's Chapel where the family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Following the visitation the body will be cremated. Family and friends are invited for a time of food and fellowship between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at the Augusta School House. A celebration of life for Mr. Shepherd will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Augusta School House, with Chaplain Bill Willis officiating. A memorial has been established for the Lee County Hospice.
