Obituary From The Ottumwa Courier , September 7, 2013: Carl Shepherd OTTUMWA — Carl E. Shepherd. 89, of Ottumwa, died Sept. 5, 2013, at Ridgewood Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born Jan 27. 1924, in Drakesville to Irvin and Albe Eakins Shepherd. In November 1943, he married Caroline Plies. After serving in the Army Air Force, he worked for John Morrell and Co. and was also a carpenter. Survivors include three sons, Oscar (Barbara), Garry (Cran) and Dennis (Karen); eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Shepherd; and one sister, Ilene Coyne. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, wife. three brothers and one sister. A graveside service will be held at 11:45 a.m. Monday at Shaul Cemetery; Rev. Garry Shepherd officiating and military services conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be from IO-11:30 a m. Monday at Robertson-Jay Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties.
