The Weekly News-Democrat, 24 May 1878, Friday SELECT SCHOOL On Monday next, May 27th, Miss Ella Murdock and Miss Flora Frederick will open a select school in the brick school house in the second ward. The term will last two months, and the tuition will be $1.50 per scholar per month, or $3.00 for the term. These ladies have both had experience as teachers and we bespeak for them a liberal patronage from our citizens. **************************************************** The Emporia Gazette, 03 July 1911, Monday MRS. T. N. SEDGWICK DEAD The body of Mrs. T. N. Sedgwick, who died Sunday morning at 8 o'clock after a week's illness at her home in Parsons, arrived in Emporia this afternoon. The body was taken directly from the train to Maplewood cemetery, where short services were held and interment made by the body of her husband, the last Thomas N. Sedgwick, who died seven years ago. The Sedgwicks were among the early settlers of Emporia and lived here until about sixteen years ago, when Mr. Sedgwick was appointed attorney for the M. K. & T. railroad, with headquarters in Parsons. Mrs. Sedgwick, who before her marriage was Miss Flora Frederick, was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Frederick, and was reared in Emporia. She had scores of friends in Emporia who were grieved to learn of her death. The funeral services were held this morning in Parsons, and the pastor of the Christian Church there, accompanied the body to Emporia, having charge of the services at the grave this afternoon. Mrs. Robert L. Jones sang impressively "Nearer My God to Thee." The pall-bearers, chosen from the life-long friends of the family, were J. T. Burton, J. S. Alexander, F. H. Bowers, C. G. West and L. H. Lewis. While living in Emporia Mrs. Sedgwick was an active member of the First Christian Church and never took her letter from the Emporia congregation.
