The Emporia Weekly News-Democrat, 31 Jul 1868, Friday DIED, in Emporia, Kansas, July 27th, 1868, of flux, AUGUSTUS C. FREDERICK, only son of G. W. and Paulina Frederick, after an illness of nine days, aged 14 years, 3 months and 11 days. The following lines were written by his father, while he lay a corpse, expressing the feeling of the family at the time: He was the pride of his father's heart-- Too dear from his mother and sister to part; But such are the decrees of God, That many die early, and return to the sod. FATHER His suffering was great for many a day, And I felt relieved when God took him away; For many a night when I lay down to sleep, My heart was sorrowful and my trouble was deep. MOTHER I am lonely now for I am left all alone, For brother's gone to Heaven and I must go soon; But Pa and Ma will comfort my heart, If from my brother I do have to part. SISTER We all feel as though we done all we could To save the life of the true and the good, And now feel resigned to give back to God What He gave to us from the earth's sod. FAMILY
