Salt Lake Tribune, The (UT) - August 9, 2009 Deceased Name: GEORGE WHITBY Mesquite UT United States Dr. George L. Whitby Jimmy Dr. George L. Whitby 86, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 5th 2009 in Payson Utah. George was born May 26, 1923 in Alpine, Utah, to Thomas Alvin and Alice Cordelia Moyle Whitby. He grew up in Alpine, Utah, working on his dad's farm with his loving brothers and sisters. George graduated from American Fork High School and attended BYU. George fell in love with June Stewart and they married December 4, 1944. George and June moved to Washington, D.C. where he attended Georgetown University. After graduating from Georgetown Dental School, George and June made their home in Payson, Ut. where he started his dental practice. George spent 40 years doing what he loved best, being a dentist and helping people. During that time he was on the Board of Directors for Payson City Hospital and the State Peer Review Board for Delta Dental. George was a lifetime member of the Elks Club and spent many years working with the Sub for Santa program. Dad is survived by four daughters, Marsha (John) Jensen, Jana (Mark) Spencer, Sheri and Jody Whitby. Grandchildren include, Cy, Marley, Will, Nate, Vic (Jessica), and Martin (Angie) and five great- grandchildren. He is survived by one sister, May (Bob) Morgan and one brother, Ray (Dee) Whitby. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, June; parents; brothers; Stephen, Roy, Glen, Ivan and sisters; Helen, Alice, Evelyn, Beth and Emma. The family wishes to thank Dr. LeRoy, Mountain View Hospital, and the staff at Parkway Health Center for the gentle and excellent care they gave to Dad. A Visitation with family and friends will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2009 from 12:00 to 1:00, followed by a Celebration of Life at Walker Mortuary, 587 South 100 West, Payson, Utah.
