Bio

Mathilde Ella Sophie Schmidt was baptized June 7, 1903, at Salem Lutheran Church near Malone, Texas. Her baptismal sponsors were Mathilde Manske, Ella Stephan, and Adolf Maas. Matilda Schmidt was confirmed March 24, 1918, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church near Malone. Matilda Schmidt married Herman Muesse on Nov. 2, 1922, in Malone, Tx. Herman and Matilda Muesse were married 25 years. They were the parents of two children; a son, Herman, Jr., and a daughter, Marguerite Schronk. ********************************************************************************* OBITUARY FROM THE HILLSBORO PAPER: Matilda Schmidt Muesse 1903-2001 Mrs. Matilda Schmidt Muesse, 97, of Hillsboro died Sunday, March 18, in a local nursing home. Born March 22, 1903 in Malone, Texas, she was the daughter of Charlie and Sophie Bode Schmidt. She grew up and attended school in Malone. On November 2, 1922, she married Herman Muesse. She trained as a nurse at Boyd Sanitarium in Hillsboro where she received her LVN License. For many years, she worked as a licensed therapist at Grant-Buie Hospital in Hillsboro. She was a member of Frost United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on December 7, 1947, two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include: one son, Herman Muesse, Jr., of Hillsboro; one daughter and son-in-law, Marguerite and Weldon Schronk of Irene; four grandchildren, James Ray and Judy Schronk of Hillsboro and Wesley and Debbie Schronk of Irene; five great-grandchildren, Rodney and Susan Schronk of Hillsboro, Derek Schronk of Itasca, Adam and Allison Schronk, both of Irene; one great-great-grandchild, Ryan Schronk of Hillsboro; one sister-in-law, Wanda Hamilton of West; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 20, at 10:00 a.m. at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro with Dr. Bob Messer officiating. Edens Funeral Home in Hillsboro was in charge of services. Pallbearers were grandsons. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. ********************************************************************************** Matilda Schmidt Muesse was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Sophie Bode Schmidt; her husband, Herman Muesse, Sr., her two brothers, William H. "Bill" Schmidt and Charlie Schmidt; her sisters, Mina Schmidt Trompler, Mary Schmidt Radke Rodiek, and an infant sister; and her daughter-in-law, Nettie Corpier Muesse.
