The Winfield Daily Courier Winfield, Kansas Wednesday, February 13, 1918 page 3 Mrs. Mary Barce died Thursday evening at five o'clock at the home of Mrs. M.J. Matheny with whom she had been staying since the gas shortage. The cause of death was paralysis, having suffered a paralytic stroke Thursday morning. Mrs. Barce was born in Illinois in 1856 and at the time of her death was 62 years of age. She had been a resident of Udall for a number of years and was well known having been a dressmaker. She is survived by mother, Mrs. Willis of Mulvane, six brothers and one sister, A.W., of Mulvane, Watt D.E.I., and Lucy of Udall, George of Douglass, Ott of Atlanta and Mrs. Dave Shockey of Udall. All were present at the funeral except George. She was a member of the Congregational church. The funeral was held from the Congregational church Saturday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. H.S. Scott. A trio composed of Rev. Scott, Herbert E. Magnusson and Bert Latham sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul." and "Rock of Ages." The pallbearers were W.E. Sweet, Elmer Valentine, J.W. Carlton, George Seaman, I.A. Winn and J.W. Brewer. Interment was made in the Udall cemetery. (transcribed by Judy Mayfield)
