The Banner-Press (David City, Nebraska), Thu, 21 Mar 1940, Page 1 A LONG TIME RESIDENT Linwood Man Passed On He Died at His Home Saturday, at the age of 75 years. Linwood, March 20 - Martin Kavan , long-time resident of Butler county, passed away at his home in Linwood Saturday, March 16, at the age of 75 years. He had been in failing health for the past year, and was bedfast ten days before his death. Funeral services were held in the Z.C.B.J. hall Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, in charge Rev. B.A. Fillipi of Clarkson. Music was furnished by singers from Clarkson. Burial was in the Killian cemetery, near Morse Bluff. Martin Kavan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Kavan, was born in Czechoslovakia in 1864, and when six years of age came to Nebraska and Butler county with his parents, residing here continuously since that time. He farmed for many years, retiring several years ago and moving to Linwood. He was married in 1888 to Barbara Shavlik, who survives him as do also the four daughters born to them, Mrs. Tillie Peltz and Mrs. Libbie Duffek of Hemingford and Mrs. Emily Cernusak and Miss Agnes Kavan of Linwood. Mr. Kavn also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Krejci of Omaha and Mrs. James Hajny of Fairfield of Schuyler. During his many years of residence in and near Linwoof Mr. Kavan made many friends.
