Obituary for George D. Keener. The Mountain Statesman. Grafton, WV. June 9, 1978. Abstract--age, 81, of Point Pleasant passed away June 8, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Richard Avis in Guysville, Ohio. He was born in Taylor Co., Aug. 29, 1896, s/o the late George W. and Sarah Lambert Keener. His first wife Lillie Zumbro Keener preceded him in death, March 1, 1964. he is survived by his second wife, Mae Roush Keener; eleven children; Mrs. Cecil (Sarah) Mattox, Pt. Pleasant; George D. Keener, Jr., Gallopolis, Ohio; Mrs. Henry (Mary Grace) Jackson, Dunbar, WV; Kenneth Keener, Dunbar, WV; Mrs. Randall (Myrtle) Hogsett, Huntington; Mrs. John (Jo Lou) Alt, Davison, Mich.; Mrs. Nelson (Susan) Hoschar, Dunbar, WV; Mrs. Albert (Margie) Coleman, Vienna, WV;; Mrs. Richard (Frances) Bellar, Pt. Pleasant, WV; Mrs. Richard (June) Avis, Guysville, Ohio; 34 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, Everett Keener of Grafton; and one sister, Mrs. Wilma Sharp, Kingwood, WV. He was preceded in death by two children, one grandchild, three brothers and three sisters. He was retired for the Department of Highways. Interment was in the Kirkland Memorial Gardens, Point Pleasant, WV.
