Winnie Spain, 88 June 6, 2001 Winnie Ray Spain died Friday at Lakeside Nursing Home in Highland Heights, Ky. Funeral services were yesterday at Pemberton Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Bryan officiating. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery in Klondike. Her nephews served as pallbearers. Spain was born Dec. 21, 1912, in Delta County, the daughter of Thomas Albert and Betty Brack Ray. She attended Shiloh School in Delta County. A former Commerce resident, Spain moved to California and worked as a nurse's aide and retail clerk. After the death of her husband, she returned to Commerce until 1988 and then moved to Kentucky. She was a Baptist. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Faye Watkins of Kentucky; daughter, Betty Spain of California; brothers, T.A. Ray of Klondike, Horace Ray of Long Beach, Calif., and Lester Ray of Mesquite; sisters, Mary Beth Beeson of Mesquite and Reba Trevillyou of Commerce; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lyman Spain, and six brothers.
