Fairfield resident Dick J. Timmerman, 84, died Monday, July 5, 2004, at his home. Services were held Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Harold D. Stromer officiating. Burial with military rites was in Blue Valley Cemetery at Ayr. ***** Mr. Timmerman was born July 14, 1919, to John J. and Sarah M. (Clark) Timmerman in O'Neill. On June 27, 1941, he married Margaret L. Hansen in O'Neill. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941-45 during World War II. He worked for Levi Fuller Sand and Gravel in O'Neill; John Deere in Syracuse, Kan.; the Naval Ammunition Depot at Hastings; and McAlester Army Ammunition Plant in McAlester, Okla. He retired in 1982 and moved to the Lawrence area. He later moved to Fairfield. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He received two awards for sustained superior performance and awards for length of service during his years of employment. Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Arlene Gregg of Shawnee, Okla., and Connie Kitchens of McAlester; five sons, Delbert of Cadams, David, Steven of Hastings, Thomas of Harvard and John of Fairfield; two brothers, Oscar of Fairfield and Bennie of Hastings; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Shirley; two infant sons, Richard and Timothy; two sisters; and five brothers.
