OLD RESIDENT DEAD Mrs. Elizabeth Gatherer Died At Powers, Mich, Sunday, December 29th, 1918 Mrs. Elizabeth Gatherer, widow of John Gatherer, Sr., one of Norway's earlist residents has died. She would have been 90 if she would have lived until next May. Elizabeth Baird came to the United States when she was 21 and lived in Maryland for 3 years, during which time she married John Gatherer. In the early 1850s the family moved to the Upper Peninsula. In the 1870s the came to this Menominee range and settled in Vulcan, where her husband died. Since his death she divided her time between Escanaba, Norway and Powers relatives. At the time of her death she was making her home with a daughter, Mrs. Bartly Wheeler, at Powers.
