Mary Jane Burch (Sometimes known as "Jennie") was born Mar 17 1867 in Monroe County, Indiana. She was the daughter of William Burch and Susan Storm. Her father, William, was a farmer. Her mother had at least eleven pregnancies, but only seven of the children survived infancy. Jennie was the oldest surviving daughter. Burch 1880–1880 On Oct 7 1888, when Jennie was twenty-one she married the widower, Stephen Douglas Neal. Douglas was 26 and had a son, Willie Neal by his previous marriage. Together Jennie and Douglas had eight more children, seven of whom survived infancy. She was forty-seven.
