William Henry Duncan was born at Lincoln, Illinois, Dec. 21, 1865, and departed this life at Ravenna, Nebr. on April 19, 1944, at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 28 days. On March 12, 1891, he was united in marriage to Matilda Viola Hayden at Valparaiso, Nebr. To this union three daughters and 1 son was born. In the spring of 1892, he started farming and later bought a farm 8 miles north of Mason City, which he operated until 1895. He then returned to Valparaiso for one year, after which he purchased a farm at Litchfield, where he continued to reside until the death of his wife on August 2, 1935. Since then he had made his home with his daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Giese of Ravenna, Nebraska. Mr. Duncan's sickness was of extended duration. He was a very patient sufferer, but was very fortunate in having the loving care and nursing of his daughter all through his declining days. There remains to mourn his departure, 1 son, Elmer H. of Sheridan, Oregon; 1 daughter, Mrs. Clara Giese of Ravenna, Nebr., 1 brother, Edward of Kearney, Nebr., 1 sister, Mrs. Lucy Coons of California; 2 grandchildren, Mrs. Valeria Biddle of Chicago, Illinois; Mrs. Ethel Rusk of Alliance, Nebr., 3 great grandchildren, Bobbie, Gayle and Charles with a number of nephews and nieces and a host of friends. Those of the family who preceded him in death besides his companion were the daughters, Mrs. Ethel Dickerson, who died Febr. 17, 1916 and Miss Ella Rose on Dec. 27, 1918. Funeral services were held from the Giese home on Sunday, April 23rd at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Louis iHeh. Mesdames Byrel Lang and Paul Givens of Litchfield, sang "Does Jesus Care," and "Shall We Gather at the River." The pallbearers were Ellsworth Duncan, James Craven, Lester Duncan, Henry Douglas, M.L. Parker, L. Beckins. Interment was made at Litchfield cemetery. Among those in attendance from out of town at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Biddle, Chicago, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Rusk, Alliance, Nebr.; Mrs. E. Duncan and son, Elm Creek, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. L. Beckins, Bellwood, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Lester McAlpina, Schuyler, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. James Craven, Burwell, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Parker and son, Kearney, Nebr. and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Reed, Litchfield, Nebr.
