POISON PROVES FATAL TO C.N. DUNCAN Charles Duncan 58 years old, died at his home in the city, about seven o'clock Sunday morning, as the result of drinking Carbolic Acid. Mr. Duncan had arisen early and went to the kitchen, where he drank the poison before Mrs. Duncan had arisen. Medical aid was at once summoned but to no avail, death coming about 30 minutes later. Sheriff Thraikil and County Attorney Line of Loup City were called and an inquest revealed that Mr. Duncan had died from the effects of poison administered by his own hand. While the suicide theory is generally accepted, the family are at a loss for explanation. Mr. Duncan enjoyed normal health, was not of melancholy disposition and had no financial worries. The deceased was born in Pyatt County, Il. moving to Saunders County and settling near Valparaiso, Nebraska, with his parents, when a boy. A few years later he moved to Custer County and then, about 25 years ago to Litchfield, where he had made his home since. For about 15 years, he operated a cream station. About forty years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Nana Tate, at Wahoo, Nebraska. Besides his widow, four daughters, three sons, two brothers, two sisters, and eighteen grandchildren survive. They are Mrs. Gertrude Douglas, Ravenna; Mrs Jissie Rickerson, Roseland; Mrs Estella Yingling, Ravenna; and Mrs Emma Clausen, Kearney; daughters; Ellsworth Duncan, Litchfield; Lester, Ravenna; and Paul, Litchfield; Sons; Mrs. H. Coons, Phoenix, Ariz., and W.H. Duncan, Litchfield and E.R. Duncan, Elm Creek, brothers. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, Aug 12th in the Litchfield Christian Church, conducted by Rev. H.H. Todd of the Methodist Church. Internment was made in the Litchfield Cemetery. from the Clausen Family Tree, ancestry.com
