Son of Charles and Elizabeth (Hladik) Oborny. Graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1958. Military: U.S. Army in Germany, 1958-1960, and in San Antonio from October 1961 - August 196; joined the Army Reserve, graduated from Officer Candidate School in August 1963 and, after 34 years of service, retired as a lieutenant colonel. Married: Dec. 28, 1961, to Dianne Miller. Marrid: Dec. 20, 1987, to Catherine House. Completed a master of science degree at Fort Hays State College in Hays, Kan., 1971; was a wildlife biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service; retired in 1997. With second wife, lived in Green Bay, Wis.; work involved protection of wetlands, rivers and streams; retired and moved to a small farm near Hazard, enjoyed planting native prairie grasses and trees and spending time with their dogs. Activities: enjoyed Czech food and music, researching family history and feeding squirrels; was always proud of his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of Hazard; son, Alan Oborny and his wife, Sheila, of Oshkosh; daughter, Cindy Miesbach and her husband, David, of Waverly; grandchildren, Chelsea and Justin Oborny and Nicholas and Isaac Miesbach; brother, Leonard Oborny and his wife, Alice, of Rush Center, Kan.; sister, Betty Lou Skillet of Hays, Kan.; mother-in-law, Florence House of Grand Island; brothers-in-law, Robert House and his wife, Marilyn, and Steven House, all of Denver, and Richard House of Grand Island; sister-in-law, Terry Rolfe and her husband, John, of Denver; and many nieces and nephews. Was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Louis; half brothers, John and Charles; and half sisters, Agnes Pechanec and Mary Ann Nather.
