Mildred D. Yankey February 3, 1921 - February 24, 2010 Mildred D. Yankey, 89, Weiser, passed away February 24, 2010 in Meridian, Idaho. Mildred was born in her family home on February 3, 1921 in Nampa, Idaho to Mike and Jennie Duspiva. She was raised in Nampa and graduated from Nampa High School. She met her husband, the late Lester Yankey in Caldwell and they were married January 3, 1943 in Tacoma, Washington. While living in Tacoma, Mildred worked for the Pacific Naval Authority until Lester returned from WWII. After World War II they settled in Weiser where they raised their family. Her daughter, Shirley, was born in Tacoma while her husband was an Army Infantry man in the European Theatre. All the other children were born in Weiser. Mildred was a school lunch cook. She enjoyed cooking, fishing and crocheting. Following her husband's death, Mildred lived at the Cottages in Weiser and later at Meridian Care Center. Over the last several years Mildred enjoyed the frequent visits of lifelong friends, who would stop to say hello or leave a treat or play cards. Mildred is survived by her six children: Shirley (Ray) Sweeny of Solvang, CA, Ronald Yankey of Boise, Richard (Lynn) Yankey of Twin Falls, Thomas (Jackie) Yankey of Weiser, Byron (Lynne) Yankey of Nampa, Philip (Judi Tanzman) of Pasadena, CA.; 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; sister, Jean(Robert) Fisher of Eugene, OR., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester H. Yankey, 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Visitation will be Friday, February 26th from 4-7PM at Thomason Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Thomason Funeral Home with private interment at Hillcrest Cemetery.
