Bio

Leola Mae Jacobs was born on May 22, 1927, to Henry M. and Rosa A. (Bock) Jacobs at Oconee, Nebraska. She attended schools in Bellwood and Columbus. She married Edward J. Jakub on Nov. 17, 1945, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Clyde in rural Dodge County, Nebraska. Leola was a beloved wife and a wonderful mother. She was a homemaker, a Avon saleswomen and cleaned homes. Leola liked to collect antiques. She liked going to Antique Car Swap Meets with her husband Eddie. She and her husband Eddie belonged to the Fremont Antique Car Club. Leola's other passion was going to Polka dances. She loved to dance! You could also find Leola driving around the Schuyler area in a 1931 Model A Ford Roadster that was restored by her husband. On Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, at Butler County Hospital in David City, Leola Jakub, 70, of Schuyler, died from a 4 year battle with colon cancer. Funeral services were held Nov. 25 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Schuyler, at 10:30 a.m., with Father Ralph Lammers officiating. Interment was in Schuyler Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harvey Nauenburg, Fred Hoppe, Gary Zeleny, Kenny Svoboda, Bob Mariska and Ronnie Knapp. Music was provided by soloist Jack Seckman and organist Libby Viglicky. Visitation was held Nov. 24 from 12 noon until 5 p.m. at Svoboda Funeral Home south chapel, Schuyler and from 6 until 8 p.m. at the church. Visitation was held again the day of the funeral from 8:30 until 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home. A wake service was held Nov. 24, at 7 p.m. at the church. She is survived by five sons, Edward Eugene (Yvonne) Jakub, James (Elaine) Jakub, Jerome (Judy) Jakub, all of Columbus; Carrol (Linda) Jakub, Octavia; and Terry Jakub, Schuyler; two daughters, Alice (Joe) Kastanek, Schuyler, and Janell (Russell) Brichacek, Omaha; 13 grandchildren: three step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother Ronald Sr., St. Edward; sister Julia Enyeart, Long Beach, California; seven half brothers and four half sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; infant sister, Henrietta Jacobs; sister Harriett Nauenburg; brothers Kenneth Jacobs and Franklin Jacobs; infant half brother and a half brother.
