Edward Eugene "Gene" Jakub died Monday, December 26, 2016 at his home. Edward "Gene" Jakub was born March 4, 1943 in Columbus, Nebraska to Edward James and Leola (Jacobs) Jakub. He received his education in Schuyler. He served in the Army Reserves from 1964-1970. On July 18, 1964 Gene married Marilyn Schott in Schuyler, They divorced in 1973. Gene married Yvonne (Willers) Krohn on November 28, 1981 in Columbus. He worked for Case Implement, Central Sand & Gravel, Sands Livestock, NPP, and The Maschhoffs. He enjoyed spending time at his farm, racing cars and attending car shows and swap meets. Gene was well known in the racing circuit and was inducted into the Beatrice Speedway Racing Hall of Fame. He was gifted at repairing and fixing things. Gene was a member of the American Legion Hartman Post #84 and the Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by: Wife: Yvonne Jakub of Columbus Daughter: Tammy (Ted) Dreifurst of Columbus Daughter: Bonnie (Jay) Hauck of Minnesota Step Son: Brent (Robin) Krohn of Blair Step Daughter: Angela (John) Murphy of Elkhorn Step Daughter: Shelly Stone of Columbus Sister: Alice Kastanek of Schuyler Brother: Carrol (Linda) Jakub of Octavia Brother: Jim (Elaine) Jakub of Columbus Brother: Jerome Jakub of Columbus Brother: Terry Jakub of Schuyler Sister: Janell (Russell) Brichacek of Omaha Brother-in-law: Gary (Alberta) Willers of Neligh Sister-in-law: Suzanne Totten of Columbus Brother-in-law: Gene (Dianne) Willers of Pilger Grandchildren: Kayla Dreifurst, Dalton Dreifurst, Ashley (Brandon) Sargent, Quinton Hauck and 15 Step Grandchildren. Great grandchild: Dayken Sargent and 2 Step Great Grandchildren. Several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Danielle Jakub, parents, Edward & Leola Jakub; brother-in-law, Joseph Kastanek; and sister-in-law, Judy Jakub.
