Gladys Marie Prater Herod, age 88, of Palestine, Texas died March 22, 2010 at at Palestine Regional Medical Center. Burial at Garden of Memory Cemetery, Elkhart, Texas, is under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine. She was born May 29, 1921 in Slocum, Texas, the daughter of the late J. D. and Nettie Owens Prater. Mrs. Herod married James Douglas Wooten in 1937 and they had two daughters, Jo Ann Wooten Starkey and Carol Wooten Staples. After her husband's death, she married James Leland Reed in 1945, and they had two daughters, Linda Reed Lesh and Gail Reed Willard. After the death of Mr. Reed, she enjoyed many happy years of marriage with the late Cecil Herod of Palestine. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, J. D. Prater, Jr., and Charles Prater; sister, Lucille Prater Hanks; granddaughter, Candice Staples Blanton; and great grandson, William Ross Boyd. She is survived by sisters Jean Prater McKinney, and Margaret Prater Arisco; daughters, Jo Ann Starkey, Carol Staples, Linda Lesh, and Gail Willard; grandchildren, Cindy Fickey; Geoffrey Parker, Cecil Staples, Brenda Nash, Todd Staples, Julie Staples, Stephen Lesh, Michelle Weems and Heather Wheat; and great-grandchildren and great great grandchild.
