Bio

Hill City --- Funeral services are to be held here Saturday for Henry J. Ehlers, former Rapid City resident who died earlier in the week at Sanator following an illness of two years. Rev. R. W. Uecker of Custer will officiate at the 2 p.m. rites in the Union Congregational church, and burial will be in the Hill City Cemetery under direction of the McColley Funeral Home of Custer. Ehlers was born Oct. 8, 1897, at Grand Island, Neb. He attended Nebraska school and in 1937 moved to Keystone. A carpenter and miner by trade, he made his home at Rapid City in 1952. Survivors include his wife, Amanda; two daughters, Mrs. Violet Young and Mrs. Arlene Bradford, both of Rapid City; two sons, Merlin, Rapid City, and Elmer, Hill City; two sisters, including Mrs. Mel Libner, Rapid City; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. --- From The Rapid City Journal - November 12, 1959
