Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent March 1989 Irene Schroeder, 78, of Grand Island, died Sunday, March 19, at Omaha. Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Russell Mueller will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be ... at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home... Mrs. Schroeder was born March 19, 1911, in rural Merrick County, the daughter of Theodore and Lena Beberniss Ehlers. She attended school at Chapman and graduated from Chapman High School, later moving to Grand Island. She married Harry H.P. Schroeder on March 21, 1931, at Hastings. They lived in Grand Island where she was sales manager at Sears for many years. Mr. Schroeder died May 11, 1965. She had been in failing health for the past six years. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, both national and local Union Pacific Old Timers groups, the Women's Division of the Chamber of Commerce and many other women's organizations. She also was a member of the Sears Retirement Club, and had been a member of the Eagles and Platt-Deutsche auxiliaries. Survivors include a son, LeRoy of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a daughter, Mrs. Douglas (DeLena) Swanson of Apple Valley, Minn.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Carl (Adele) Rogers, and a brother, Ted Ehlers, both of Burwell.
