Published in the Ord Quiz, Ord, Nebraska, Thursday, December 27, 1951, page 8, column 3 Obituary – James Skolil Man never knows, but when called he answers as did James Skolil, who a few hours before death seemed to be in good spirits and his health was apparently as good as it had been for several months, or since a stroke in May of this year, but at 11 o'clock Thursday night, December 20, 1951, he had a second stroke and death claimed him at 9:20 the following morning. James Skolil was born on a farm 12 miles west and 2 miles north of Ord on August 16, 1888, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Skolil, and passed away at his home in Comstock at the age of 63 years, 4 months and 4 days. Farming, which he learned in his boyhood, he followed until a month preceding his demise when he retired from the farm, moved to Comstock, where a few weeks previous he had opened the Comstock theatre. He was proving to be an able businessman. In 1911 he was married to Emma Kokes and two children, William and Rosie were born to this union. Mrs. Skolil passed away in 1918. In 1921, he married Mary Fajmon, and two children blessed this union, Evelyn and Norma. Surviving are his wife, Mary, one son, William of Sargent, three daughters, Mrs. Rosie Kocourek and Mrs. Evelyn Kriss of Comstock, and Mrs. Norma Hunt of Arcadia; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Vodehnal of Ord and Mrs. Mary Novotny of Dix, Nebr.; three brothers, Emil Skolil of North Loup, Nebr., Edward Skolil of San Pedro, Calif., and Joseph Skolil of Ord; five grandchildren, Shirley Skolil, Jerry and Jeanie Kocurek, Eileen Kriss and Larry Hunt; besides many friends and business associates. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Frank. Funeral services were held at the National Hall Sunday afternoon December 23, with the Rev. Merle Zook in charge. Burial was in the National cemetery with Spooners funeral service of Sargent in charge.
