CLICK on the photos for more family history. The last few weeks of her life daughter Martha (Marty) Larsen took care of Frances in Omaha so she probably died there. After coming to the U. S. Frances lived in the Bruno area of Butler County until the 1890s and then they moved to Dwight where she lived the remainder of her life. One of her sons, Ray, became a lawyer and practiced in David City, Nebraska. He is buried in the David City Cemetery. _____ Francisca M (Frances) (Fannie) Coufal was born 13 Mar 1870 and baptized 15 Mar 1870 in Dalešice Village, Třebíč District, South Moravia, Austro-Hungarian Empire, the daughter of Karl (Karel) (Charles) Coufal (1839-1926) and Marianna (Marie) (Mary) Zack (Zak) (1848-1940). Francisca was 11 months old when she and her parents arrived in the Port of Baltimore, USA, on 24 Jun 1872. She married Rupert J (Robert) Schabata (Sabata) (1869-1918) in Butler County, Nebraska, USA about 1892. _____ LETTER from Frances's son-in-law Dr. J. J. Srb of Dwight to granddaughter Hannah Srb Hultquist at Minden, Nebraska. People mentioned from Dwight are Frances Sabata, son Ernest (Ern or Bob) Sabata and wife Mary, and Ern and Mary's daughters Janet and Lois. J. J. SRB, M. D. DWIGHT, NEBR. DEC 14 1946......3 cents Mr Leroy Hultquist Minden Nebr. Dwight Nebr 13 Dec 46 Dear Family: I know you have a varied feeling about us for not coming to see your much advertised display but mom told you why. (The first Christmas pageant at Minden was on Dec 7, 1946 and is still going in 2011.) I am rather the cause in many instances of making plans go awry. You will have to be patient with us. From the papers it (the pageant) must be a display to satisfy every one. One night we went to Seward and just parked and their court house lights went on, they made special additions to their display,. rather pretty too. They use to have a manger on the lawn with animals, the biblical scene of the birth of Christ. Tomorrow we send the last box to California (to J. J. and Agnes's daughter and family Ellen Srb Markytan). It ought to be a nice Christmas for them. Not because of any laborite gifts but because of the number. Marketa (Ellen's daughter) ought to be pleased just to open them. Marianne (Srb) came home (from the University of Nebraska) on the motor tonight and took the car for the week end. She had a friend along lives at Exeter. Away they went to Lincoln for the big ball this evening. Two evening gowns all done up. Big event from indications on their faces. I hope to get my car back some time I hope. Last night I had to go to Ulysses to see a lady so Mom went along it was a beautiful night. Our heater wasn't doing so well but it warmed us up just enough. I went to Valparaiso with Ern and Mary & Janet to see Dwight play Valparaiso. On the way about 2 miles from Val. we ran into the strangest sight I ever saw. It made you feel the immensity of what nature could do when she is angry. For about 10 seconds the heavens gradually let up then burst into a ball of blue light, so intense it was erie. The car slowed down not because Bob quit feeding, the engine slowed down and then went on. Years ago when I used to go with Uncle John (Skala) to Grandmas (Skala at Dodge, Nebr.) over the week end we saw the same phenomenon. This one was closer to us because it made a noise not unlike the rust (rush) of water in the mountains. This must have been a big meteor which burst into a powder. So far no remants have been found hereabouts although the University has hunters here next day. There must be because it was too close when it struck above us. It scared Janet and rather the lot of us. Mom was alone (at Dwight) in the house but the she dont scare easily. But she was uneasy. . Dwight (probably public high school) lost one and won one that night Prof has a nice looking team 3 are over 6 ft and 1-6 but they look the fine smooth coordination that makes for a winning team. They ought to improve, besides they play together another year. Our 5 iron man team was may favorite. These boys look good on the floor clean cut. ............. So we are alone tonight with no car and with a fairly good prospect of not going out tonight. It is as well because the skies are overcast and a mist is coming down. Secret - "Lois is- you know what." Don't for goodness sake let it slip out, you know them. Mom wants to know when you are coming for Christmas. There should be something around here for the boys (Joe and Jack Hultquist) and maybe for you two (Hannah and Leroy) as well. ....... Grandma (Frances Coufal Sabata of Dwight) was here tonight. She argues for no presents. Good night Dad (Dr. J. J. Srb - Dwight, Nebr.)
