Bio

He was born at Bohlenberge, Germany and died at Bruning. He followed his brother Friedrich to America in 1859 and joined him at Eureka, Ill. He enlisted in the Union Army in August of 1862, but in close range fighting suffered severe injuries from which he never completely recoved. He was given a mdedical discharge in May of 1863 and returned to Ill. On August 8, 1867, he married Marianna Philippi and along with brother Herman and neighbor Henry VonLindern, they moved from Illinois to Milford, Ne. and later relocated to the same community known today as Bruning, Ne. The children who survived infancy were: Margarethe (b. 1868), Ubbe Robert (b. 1874), Dorothea (b. 1877), Marianne (b. 1879), George (b. 1881) Adolph (b. 1884) and Engel (b. 1886)
