He was christened Diedrich, but known as Frank. Frank came to America with his parents in 1861 and his brother Herman took him in when he was orphaned at age 15. He married Engel Lahners in 1869 and they came to Nebraska in 1883. In 1890 Engel died and left behind 8 children. A year later, Frank married Wilhelmine Kerl. Six children were born to this marriage. He was also a key figure in founding Bruning and was named president of the German Bank in 1893, two years after it was chartered. The surviving children from both marriages were: Herman, Jr.(b.1870), Anna (b.1872), Margaret Lena (b.1874), Wilhelmina (Minnie)(b.1876), Thomas (b. 1878), Engel (Mollie)(b.1880), Margarethe (Acie)(b. 1883), Frank D.(B.1885), Sophie & Engel Lena (twins, b. 1892), Fred H. This additional info is from the obit: He was born at Bohlenberg, near Zetel, Province of Oldenburg, Germany. He was the youngest of 6 children, namely his brothers Herman, George, Friedrich, Wilhelm and his sister, Margaret Danekas. The family emigrated to America in 1860 and settled at Eureka, Ill. Here, before Frank was 15 years old, his parents died. His father on December 13, 1862 and his mother on February 24, 1865. He was married to Engel Lena Lahners and they were the parents of 9 children. Engel passed away in 1890. He married Anna Sophia Wilhelmina Kerl on October 24, 1891 and they had 6 children. He is preceded in death by sons, Herman and Fred Oltman. He is survived by children: Anna Janssen, Lena Harms, Minnie Garrels, Thomas J.w. Bruning, Marie Bowman, Margaret Middendorf, Frank G.,Sophia Philippi,Engel Lucht, Fred H., Stella Wilken, Martha Naiman, and Rosetta Bruning.
